Today in 1913
Some 20,000 textile mill strikers in Paterson, N.J., gather on the green in front of the house of Pietro Botto, the socialist mayor of nearby Haledon, to receive encouragement by novelist Upton Sinclair, journalist John Reed and speakers from the Wobblies. Today, the Botto House is home to the American Labor Museum.

Global Unions Condemn Attacks on US Federal Employees
Updated On: Apr 02, 2025
Apr. 2, 2025 | SOLIDARITY | The Council of Global Unions (CGU), representing over 200 million workers worldwide through the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), the Global Union Federations (GUFs), and the Trade Union Advisory Committee to the OECD (TUAC), strongly condemns the latest attacks by the Trump administration on the fundamental rights of workers both within the United States and abroad. “This attack on collective bargaining rights is not just an assault on American labor—it is a threat to democracy and workers everywhere because it is not about efficiency or reform—it is about fear,” said Daniel Bertossa, Public Services International General Secretary. “When governments strip away the right to organize, they silence the very people who keep our societies running: the nurses, civil servants, and frontline workers who deliver essential services with dignity and dedication. The White House may think it can silence dissent, but history shows: when they come for public service unions, we come back stronger." Public Services International
